In an effort to be good stewards of our environment, the P.J. Keating Company recycles or reuses Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP), concrete debris, and roofing shingles in the production of high quality roadway construction materials. Through our recycling program P.J. Keating is conserving valuable, non-renewable natural resources and landfill space by putting these materials to best use. Below is a brief description of the recycled materials accepted at P.J. Keating facilities:

Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) – Asphalt pavements (roads, parking lots, driveways) are America’s most recycled product with over 80% of the pavement removed each year being reused in various forms in the construction of new asphalt pavements. RAP is typically generated through milling a portion of the pavement structure or through full - depth removal. P.J. Keating uses in excess of 140,000 tons of RAP each year in the production of new Hot Mix Asphalt that is supplied to both State and private projects. P.J. Keating accepts and processes RAP at our Acushnet, Dracut, and Lunenburg, Massachusetts and Cranston, Rhode Island facilities.

Recycled Concrete (K-Base) – Produced from concrete debris generated during the demolition of existing concrete structures, recycled concrete, or K-Base, is an alternative graded aggregate product for use as a base material under Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) pavement or as the surface of “gravel” roadways. P.J. Keating accepts concrete debris and processes K-Base at our Acushnet and Lunenburg, Massachusetts and our Cranston, Rhode Island facilities.

Roofing Shingles – Asphalt roofing shingles are composed of the same basic materials used in the production of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) , namely: aggregate, asphalt, and filler. The use of roofing shingles in HMA and roadway base products can enhance these products through improved resistance to pavement cracking, resistance to pavement rutting, and dust reduction (base products). P.J. Keating accepts and processes roofing singles from Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection Licensed operators at our Lunenburg, Massachusetts facility.
